Fall Preview: New at Dover Street Market

July 23rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in

Dover Street Market, brainchild and curatorial masterpiece of Comme des Garcons' Rei Kawakubo, is one of my favorite stores in the world. If I won the lottery (and was thin), I'd buy all my clothes there. The shop has recently revamped its basement (pictured above), which houses brands and products like the DSM private label, Idea books, Junya Watanabe, Supreme, Original Fake, Visvim, Monocle, Engineered Garments and Sneaker Space by Faye Toogood. The new fall window display (below) features set designer Andy Hillman's "Endless Summer," a dreamlike garden-illusion.

Other new design fixtures and display sections include the Lanvin nook, the Hussein Chalayan section (suspended from telephone wires on the third floor), an architectural designer-created Nicholas Kirkwood display, and a wall of "Comme des Garcons BLACK," which sits behind the fragrance carousel on the ground floor. New labels to look for at DSM this fall include Gitman & Co. (below), Bless, Dita x Cazal and Bernstock Speirs. Return to the 90s anyone? I'm getting a strong John Cusack Say-Anything feeling, and it's not just because it was on cable tv this weekend...
